WOW! ....I'm in the same category as Katt's BF, Nick: male 40+! I hope that means (since she's interested in an older guy in the performing arts) that she might ALSO be interested in an older guy in the space program!!! (j/k, of course, although I can't lie ....I'd love to escort Kat thru the inner workings at the Kennedy Space Center then take her to dinner at Cinderella's Castle!)

I agree, Greg, Katharine's entire personna appeals to any demographic who loves sweet, down to earth people and brilliant musicians. Her music can appeal to teenage girls, gay men and greatgrandmothers. That is unique for any recording artist or performer in the entertainment industry today. Elvis Presley had a similar across the board appeal. |
I believe men aged 0 don't have a developed brain yet...even though the jury's out for men in their 20's and 30's too.
Well, I'm 35...so I feel like a spring chicken compared to many in the fanbase on the male side. I've felt awkward at times lately...especially when the media tries to paint the picture that Kat only appeals to teenage girls. I've even had a couple of people over on MySpace go after me in particular (why, I'm not sure) saying they thought someone my age shouldn't be a fan of Katharine's. I reminded them that a good chunk of the men in the fanbase (that I know well anyway) are ten, twenty to thirty years older than I am. Ditto for the women...where the age limit goes even higher. (Hi, Linda .) That was all established during 'AI' when Kat was truly a performer that transcended age and demographics. But the media likes to hypnotize people into thinking otherwise of late because of the themes of those songs on the album.
So, I think a lot of the developed fanbase may not have formed had it not been that Kat catered to a timeless crowd on 'AI.' The reality is, she still is...but a lot of people want to fit everything into specific demographics and categories. I'm frankly tiring of those perceptions making some people look ridiculous out there when it shouldn't.
I'm happy to be friends with many in the fanbase who've been around a long time. All of them I consider to have good taste--because Kat's the epitome of good taste in any type of music she attempts to sing.
very well said! & aren't you a mod or something on Hilaryfan.com? lol, remember that name cause I don't think anyone else would use Gregoriancant as a user name, haha.
but anywayz, I'm within the male 0-22, (21) & I have no idea where her fan base mostly lies. like he said above, lots of people of all ages listen to her music & appreciate it. there may be a majority fanbase somewhere but it's not significant enough to make it that big of a difference.
& btw, I find the fact that Kat likes guys 20 years older then her a bit creepy. but maybe that's just me. I have a friend that won't go out with guy even 10 years older then her. like 7 or 8 years is her limit, lol. & I don't overly disagree with her on that decision. |

They still have my SN up over there? I've moderated at several message boards in the past (usually for artists over my age demographic like Diana Krall, et al.)--but that one was given to me by the owners of the site just because they trusted my older and mature judgment in keeping things in order. I never really wanted it...and I haven't been over there to check things out in a long time. While Hilary Duff had a wide appeal to many age groups...I never had that big of an interest in her (very family-friendly) career for very long...mainly because she obviously catered too much to the teen market as Kat's being centered into somewhat by the media. I had a few good friends over at that site though (of all ages like here)...and I think I remember your name based on the first three letters. Good to have you aboard over here though.
I learned from that and moderating several other places that I'll never moderate a message board again. I think KMF here is much easier to take care of...but it's just too time-consuming when I'd rather just read or post.
When it comes to Kat--she fits into a perfect demographic system that I hope won't be destroyed by media pundits who love to fit people into any bracket they can conjure. I sort of sensed recently that some of the much older men and women who I met at the 'AI' board have disappeared into the background lately out of not understanding Kat's musical direction. I know many have been turned on to that more urban sound--but others who are older haven't. Maybe it just takes time--though Kat may have to do something else in the arts world that will re-energize some of those older fans in the immediate term. I do say some--because it's fun to still see people such as Groucho getting into this kind of music...and spreading the word enough to make it contagious for the older base. |

"Lauren, don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too! kat"

Someone said Kat appeals to gay men, your forgetting the straight men too that Kat appeals to. I am straight and I love Kat's music. I fit in the Male 0-22 category. When I'm older I'll probably fit in the Male 40+ category lol. |
