The challenge of maintaining uploaded media files at SendSpace has proven to be more then I really care to keep up with. The total of uploaded Vinman material exceeds 3 GB, so rather then chase after attempting to download all that every 7 days I've taken the step of paying for a SendSpace Max account.
In the past I've added supplements to the Vinman files in order to flesh out material that wasn't encoded by Vinman. With this new improved media post that effort will be expanded considerably. My goal it to have the
video and audio uploaded for every Katharine McPhee performance during her run on American Idol. In addition Vinman's caps of all the Idol Ford commercials and Idol group performances will be here as well.
One of the changes I've implemented is a new file naming convention for all the uploaded files. The files will be named this way:
(Season of AI)(Episode within the season)_Name_Of_Performance_(file creators name).(type of file)
The season of American Idol on all files thus far is fifth (or S05), so looking at a random files name, in this case Vinman's file of Katharine's second song on Elvis night last year would look like this:

I'm starting with a frequently asked questions (FAQ) .
Who made these Katharine McPhee videos and why?
The vast majority of these files were created by
Vinman Smith a capper who "got into the business" doing Carrie Underwood files as a fan of hers during AI4. Somehow last year he fell into the unenviable, time consuming, and hard working position of being the capper for nearly all of the TOP 10 performers on American Idol 5. In other words, every bit of thanks and gratitude you feel for any Katharine McPhee media with Vinman in the title should be directed his way.
Mixed in with Vinman's files are files that
trist brought over from the official American Idol boards when they were deleted there. These files consist of eleven performance videos that capture Katharine McPhee's performances "as they were" on that night in the first half of 2006. All, save one exception I'll discuss later, are full HDTV captures of the original Fox broadcast. They are special files and you will know why when you see one of them at full screen on a big monitor...truly breathtaking.
I also picked up a couple of files from RapidShare account of a Superior Pics board poster named
dBump that are in HDTV and his great cap of Katharine's Homecoming that isn't HD but is very, very nice indeed.
The rest of the files here are totally uncredited, does that mean I created them? No it doesn't, because I did not. Nearly all other files were snipped from full episodes of American Idol 5 downloaded off torrents or emule by me or other KMF members My contribution, if any, was snipping the clip and uploading it. If I knew who made the files I'd credit them too, but since I don't, I won't.
What do need to watch these Katharine McPhee videos?
The correct answer to this depends on what specific file you have downloaded but assuming you wanted to download every single file and want them to work correctly I recommend the following five as must haves:
DixX Package (mostly for the DivX codec, but also includes a player)
VLC player (freeware video player, might be the best free piece of software you ever get)
Media Player Classic ( another freeware player, get it too)
AC3 filter ( all the HD mpegs will have no sound without this installed)
XviD codec ( most of the torrent and emule stuff requires this for video)
What is the difference between a torrent-sourced file, a Vinman file and a trist file?
In a nutshell, two things, filesize and image quality. As the picture gets better the filesize quickly expands. The best way to explain this is with some sample images. Using Katharine's Finale duet with Meatloaf as an example.

Okay you look at those and say, " I'll take HD mpegs of everthing....please." Here is the rub on them, all we have is eleven clips total and some of them are massive files (approching half a gigabyte) and none contain the pre-performance material and only two have the judges comments. Every one of Vinman's caps is complete, all pre-perfomance material, the perfomance and judges comments and Kat's interactions with Ryan as well.
Consider the trist mpegs as a very sweet gift (from trist) and only as a supplement to the Vinman stuff not as a direct alternative. One very real benefit to Vinman's DivX files is that they can be played from a DivX enabled DVD player in a home theater setting. There are dozens of DivX compatible players on the market starting at about sixty dollars, so you can take these Kat performance vids and enjoy them in that environment as well.

Notes on files:
1. This group performance of Take It Easy is an anomoly amongst the Vinman files, it is in wmv format and tagged by Vinman. Vinman re-encoded the individual performances untagged in DivX.
2. This dBump mpg file does not contain the Katharine's performance of Who Wants To Live Forever, only the introduction material leading to the song.
3. This trist file is not a full HD capture of the Fox broadcast it is a 720x480 file that shows the entire Katharine segment for the show: i.e. Time with Bocelli/Foster, performance and judging.
4. I zipped this file to fit under the SendSpace 300 MB file limit. Unzip to view.
5. These files are too large for SendSpace and are legacy uploads that don't adhere to the new naming convention.
