Abdul 'Not Sure' She's Returning to 'Idol'

Maybe we'll see Paula Abdul back at the judge's table the next time 'American Idol' airs, maybe not. The singer tells David Letterman she doesn't know what will happen come next season, Usmagazine.com reports.

For his part, Letterman offered Abdul a little advice. "One time, I tried that, I was coming up to the end of a contract, and I said, 'I don’t know, maybe I won’t come back,' and they said, 'Fine because we’ve got another guy ready to go,'" he joked.

Just heard that Paula may be doing a live-in Cher/Celine kinda gig in Vegas.
Wonder if that would preclude her Idol job.......guess that might depend on if she's actually signed an Idol contract.
Frankly,I wouldn't miss all her platitudes,adjectivitis and."...you look great tonight,honey" remarks!
More time for Kara's wisdom if Paula out of the equation! |

.... and FOX is rumored to offer Simon anywhere from 100 to 144 million a year to extend his contract? Isn't that insane? Even if he is working 365 days a year, that means he is being paid almost 400K per day to criticize and humiliate. How much can they profit out of the show each season? |

They profit by selling all that ad time.......did you ever count the number of commercials they show in an hour?I'd guess around 25-30.....and companies pay really big bucks to be included in the finale.

I think the show would function much better with just the 3 judges, and I actually think I might miss paula's ditziness. But on the other hand, I enjoy Kara very much as well. Typical Gemini, don't ask me to choose. Could Paula actually pull off one of those Celine-like extravaganzas? I mean CD can actually sing. |

I'm not sure if he would mean that in the sense of "she's family, you can't do that to her" as much as "our on-air feuding and fussing help keep ratings up so be smart." But who knows, Simon does ads for animal rights groups so maybe he does have a heart somewhere. I read somewhere that he learned that an AI contestant had left his dog in the car during auditions and it died, so he did an ad about that for some group. You'd think people would have figured that one out by now, but... anyway, Simon Says, so just do it! Or don't do it.
I guess he could always try to feud with Kara, but she's got more of an edge than Paula. People like to think of Paula being a little weird and loopy and it almost seems cruel to attack her, but I don't think anybody in their right mind would go after Kara and not expect to suffer a little for it. She can be kind of a hellcat. I like her, but she does bring a rather different feel to the panel of judges. |

AOL just loves to speculate about paula and list possible replacements. Then a commenter suggested Reba McIntyre, whom I would never have thought of, but she is a feisty character. I'm not sure if that's what they need to "replace" Paula with, though. They've already got Simon for edge, they need that loopy/ditzy thing Paula does. I still say 4 judges is too many, but now that we've had a year of Kara I would sort of hate to lose her. But to replace paula, she'd have to do more weird things like the infamous bikini flash or something off the wall to really add a different feel to things. (No, I don't mean THAT, just stuff LIKE that. Just odd, totally unexpected things. See, that's why they need Paula.) |

Omg, I just heard that Ellen Degeneres will be the one replacing Paula, and this has been confirmed. Why the 4th judge? A talk show host with no singing or musical background? Isn't it a big slap on Paula's face? Maybe, they think that everyone is tired of Paula after eight years and now they need a new clown as the entertainer. |

With her dancing, Ellen obviously listens to a lot of music so I think she will have valid opinions. We still have Kara and Randy with musical talent and experience for our experts.
But, yeah, I don't think four judges work. It's bad for the contestants. |
