As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I used to be a volunteer member of the Miss America Scholarship Pageant Organization. Tonight was the 2008 pageant. It was broadcast on TLC and for 5 weeks up until tonight they ran a reality series featurning the 2008 contestants and how Miss America was supposed to be propelled into this decade by changing the contestants (and thus Miss America herself) into an updated "it girl"! Okay, I won't bore you on that subject with my opinions!
However, tonight, Miss Wisconsin, who won the title, sang (you guessed it).... Somewhere Over the Rainbow! Obviously, the title is won by more than just the talent portion of the competition. I think you are getting my drift so I won't bother to critique her performance other than to make the point that I absolutely can't stand to hear anyone (professional or amateur) but Katharine sing that song! After the first few measures of the song, I had to mute the volumne!! I didn't like Beyonce's version or Patti LaBelles, either!! I believe it was even performed on Simon's show America's Got Talent by a 14 year old girl and it had the same affect on me!! YUK, OH NO, YUK, OH NO!!!!
There, I've gotten it off of my chest. Hope you all didn't mind! But really, I can't be the only fan that feels that the song should be retired and only performed by special permission of Katharine's Fans!!! And of course, only by our Kat!!!!
