I found this : http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/book.asp?ppn=BKAL26213

I´ll like to know if there is people here trying to play Kat's music. I got some chords here and there for some of the songs from the CD  but it´ll be cool if I can compare them to other peoples notes. Are there any musicians over here?

Thanks, zombie, for providing that...and welcome to the land of KMF.  I'm pretty sure that 'OtR' music was posted here last fall--and there was some slight debate whether it was the actual music from the recording. It turned out it WAS an apparent transcribed arrangement of Kat's recording rather than just re-using the original song sheet. The higher keys in that gave it away as being taken from Kat's recording.

Well, I just memorize my own arranging for piano...though I'm using composing software a little more recently and I may get some arrangements down on paper to analyze. When it comes to Kat's songs, I just play them in the key that's comfortable for me, whether it was originally written for that key or not. Some of her songs on the new album are kind of hard to play because of the synth effects on the recording, etc. Though I've managed to pick out 'Open Toes' in recent months (I think I placed it in B minor) without it sounding too wildly different.

The ballads are obviously the easiest to pick out on the piano. 'Ordinary World' and 'Home' have easy enough melodies that I can usually play them within minutes after hearing it off the recording or on TV.

'Love Story' has given me fits trying to make it sound decent on the piano. That needs some special tweaking just for the sake of making it work as a piano solo.

Oh, and 'Neglected' sounds haunting as hell when played as a piano solo. Anything played solo on a piano sounds amazing when it's in a minor key. Just ask all those famous 19th century European composers.

Let me know any chords or arranging tips you've found with the songs. I know there's other musicians registered here...but they may not be here now.

Just look at the VH1 version... I myself am working on it for guitar, but the piano on it is really cool. And easy to pick out. Let me know when you finish!

I haven't had much time to work on any musical arrangements this summer--but I'll get back to it eventually. The more I hear 'Love Story'--the easier it is to just sit down at the piano and play it out instantaneously. That's pretty much how my memorization for playing songs works...despite having a faster memory on other songs.

After seeing the approach that Kat's keyboardist took on it from that acoustic version on Rhapsody--you can turn that piece into a real great piece with a cool R&B rhythmic thrust. It may be the only song (outside of the ballads) on Kat's album that works the best as a solo piece. The other ones have certain studio effects that you just can't duplicate on the piano without sounding ridiculous...or having to play it with some of those MIDI effects that I hate using. Acoustic all the way is what I want achieve...no matter what contemporary song I'm attempting to adapt.

I'll avoid playing 'Open Toes' acoustically, though, to prevent strange stares from listeners who happen to pass by. Well, I'll try it some time when all four walls in my house are padded...
