ETA: The links in this post together make a comprehensive recap of every second Katharine was on the air.  They are all SD converted into avi's (HD not availabe).  Quality wise for viewing on your computer these are as good as you can get.  The mpg's from other posts below are for those looking to do their own conversions.

Not Ur Girl, 129MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/x4kr1h

Love Story, includes intro and outro (interview), 188MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/cu778e

Over It, 146MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/e94kql

Teasers for you media nutz

Super short interview, 13MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/z92ind

#1, 19MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qwz4l2

#2, 9MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/s0g5wq

#3, 40MB (includes LS rehearsal?): http://www.sendspace.com/file/snpjtw

In between OI and NUG, 52MB: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8mrysk

I got these all screwed up in my head now and I can't figure out if I got the links right.  I need a cocktail like you wouldn't believe.

Kat's Comment to me:

"Lauren,
don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too!

Awesome, Shady! Thank you. Typical great quality too. I waited with bated breath for the balance of your work.

Not to seem like a greedy pig but any change for mpg on these Shady?  I'd like to make some conversions of these could use source if possible.

OK, I know.

Sure, I could give you the mpg's.  I already erased the NUG and LS ones (I only save the finished avi's), but I could recap and make new ones, that parts pretty quick compared to converting and uploading.  If you want I can trim them down to song only.

Btw, Love Story + interview added to the OP.

If you have a high speed internet connection then you'll be able to put Stage 6 links to use.   Once I get those mpegs I'll put some nice DivX  files up there.

Awesome, so they did sort of do it in HD, although it appears to be a SD video signal superimposed on a HD frame though.    Thanks very much  for these Shady.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused with all the links too. I downloaded the first three links in Bigshady's original post, am I missing something in the others – content-wise and/or quality-wise?

BTW, thanks a million as always for doing and sharing all this great footage!

Thank you for the vids BigShady, especially the mpgs! I don't know if I ever got back to you on that Entertainment Tonight test I did on your TS, but I confirmed that your local station + cable company is indeed broadcasting slightly better resolution source material than my local station + cable company. You get  ET on a 1080i channel, I get it on 720p. Maybe it's the difference between 1080i and 720p processing that the local stations do for SD material. Sloppy upconverting by the stations? I'm not sure.

Diego and RoyBoy:
The Early Show doesn't broadcast in true HighDef. As CRB pointed out, it's SD video that is enlarged to fit an HD size.

If I view these at 1280x1024 or lower, there is virtually no visible difference between the 129MB NUG AVI and the 482MB MPG. (Could be the ravages of time on my eyesight but I don't think so.) Also the AVIs are deinterlaced by a better process than the simple blend or bob or other techniques that your media player has to do on-the-fly for these mpgs. If you already have the AVIs and are just viewing them on your computer, then you don't absolutely need the mpgs.

The mpgs are awesome for making high quality videos from them because they are the best source that cappers can get off the cable. I think that's what CRB will be doing with them. The mpgs are also good for making videos to be viewed on interlaced displays like nonprogressive TVs. They won't be going through a deinterlace/reinterlace cycle.

Another thing to consider is that the MPG has a width that goes beyond the picture frame. The crawling words at the bottom crawl all the way to the left edge of the screen, into the left black "pillar bar" that is there for SD on HD. If you use Windows Media Player to view in "full screen" you will get a bigger picture for the AVI than for the mpg. Media Player Classic automatically corrects for this and displays a fullscreen MPG. VLC can correct it with Crop to 4:3.

Bottom line is, BigShady's AVI making process is a good one for SD broadcast on HD channels. It produces AVIs that are just about as good as the mpgs but are a lot smaller. Well done stuff!

Exactly, I'm planning to make DivX encoded AVI files that have the  mp3 sound tracks required by the DivX sponsored Stage 6 streaming service, but thus far AVI.Net is pretty much pissing on my boots.  First time I've had a problem with that program.  Anyway, I'll get it sorted and have them up before too long so eventually  the "non downloaders" among us can have an HQ Kat experience as well.  I'm also planning to turn out a batch of mp3s from the broadcast AC3 soundtracks that Shady keeps intact!

The mpegs are not of any higher resolution, as diff noted, in fact at native  size they look worse but just have a  bigger  frame size.  I just didn't want to take the video through another round of compression to make the files for Stage 6.

If you plan to make your own Ipod videos or want to create (burn) a standard home theater type DVD for use away from the computer  then the MPEGs would be a good bet for those sorts of projects.  Bottom line: If you need to re-encode get source.

Thanks again Shady for providing those.

Hi all, I finally got one of these Stage 6 videos uploaded and I think it turned out great, a couple people I showed it to preferred it in an A-B comparison to the mpeg source file..  Diff if you find the time download this and tell my your opinion of how it looks.

Not Ur Girl @ Stage 6

As a side note, I found a plug in utility for AVI.net that let's the bit rate on mp3 audio to max out at 192 kbit/sec and it also does some other nice massaging to the audio as well.

Love Story @ Stage 6

This DivX  re-encode of Big Shady's mpeg is a smaller file than those posted in the OP and has an enhanced mp3 audio track.

Final video  converted and uploaded to Stage 6 is Over It:

Over It  (click here to stream and/or download from Stage 6)

As a side project but related I made mp3s of all three songs and uploaded them in a zip.  These have the level boosted so they sound much clearer and are more compatible with most album ripped mp3s.  Here are those:

Complete set of "enhanced" mp3s for Early Show performances.

Looks good! Close to Shady's AVI. I guess your taste test A-B comparison was on a progressive monitor? Does the mpg looks better on interlaced TV?

I always wondered how Stage6 worked. I only just installed it. Basically, it just streams the video as-is, into a cache on the hard drive. All the player does is play the AVI as it's downloaded instead of after. And here I thought it was something more sophisticated!

I also found out that you can upload many, but not all, of my XviD vids to Stage 6 by just changing the fourcc code in the header of the AVI. It takes only a second or two. Would save y'all a lot of reencoding time. I'll put together a post on how to do it.

I did my own audio btw. The biggest edit was making Love Story stereo and close
