CRB, if I understand you correctly... you are possibly THIS close to uploading THE definitive SOTR?!?!?!?!? OMG... I must be dreaming... I... I... I haven't even gotten around to begging for it yet!!! Wow... you must be a legend of sorts around here... and if not, you SURE as heck will be with me! Somehow... SOME HOW... I WILL get these trist vids to play... I hope... I pray! Just curious, how the heck long does it take to upload say, both parts of SOTR? We're talking hours here I assume, right?!

As far as zips, splits, unzips, and unsplits, I've learned enough to know basically what to do with those and what software I need to use for my Mac, so that's no problem. (Famous last words!)

I swear, I think I've had more fun here in two days than I've had in the past nine years of internet surfing!

Looking forward to your updated third post, as I assume that would be mostly if not all HQ vids of some sort?

Can't thank you enough, again, and please let me know one way or another, when and/or if the trist SOTR files will be ready for downloading.

Until then, please be careful... lol... wear your seatbelt, no jaywalking, and avoid all lightening storms!

Here are the split and zipped pieces of trist's version  of Somewhere Over The Rainbow:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/u1par2  (236 MB)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ciqdok.  (222MB)

Now about the trist videos not playing with the VLC player.

The strange  thing is every other player I have can handle them to some degree.  No sound in the DivX player, but they play with picture and sound in MPC, ATI multimedia player and even Windows Media Player but not the VLC player for some reason.  You may want to see if you can find another freeware Apple compatible player that can handle MPEG and give that a shot.  The only other thing would be a codec situation, but you still would have sound in that case because you can hear the Superior Pictures sound which also use AC3 audio.

Well... at least now I HAVE those files on my computer CRB. But what I can actually DO with them, that might be another story.

Can't say I've tried everything, but I spent many hours trying everything I could think of to be able to play the trist HD files, but to no avail. I hate to have to out and buy a new "windows" computer just to be able to play a few extra special videos... LOL! My local Mac expert is outta' town, so I'll check with him and see if he has any ideas. There's certainly MUCH enjoyment to be had from the smaller but still excellent quality Vinman vids, and I could be very content with those of course!

Thanks again for all your help, time, and patience CRB. I'll post back if and/or when I ever get the trists to work on my Mac.

At one point diffenrentlife was considering (and actually made a test file) taking trist's files and making compressed avi versions of them, just to make a more compact file, but I don't think that project was ever really implemented though, the point was that they do convert quite nicely to other formats in HD and converting them to a more Mac friendly type might just solve your No Picture/No Sound problem.

And I'm glad you are enjoying the files because that is what this is all about.

CRB ( aka CBR ...10-4, good buddy!)

yeah what ever happened with that project?

I'm baking some meatloaf now. Hopefully I don't forget about it and char it. If it turns out ok, I'll bring some for everyone. It's one of my favorite recipes.

Welcome Royboy!

This is a 10 second sample video from trist's High Def All Coming Back to Me Now. It shows a far shot, panning, closeup and details of the stage. Royboy, can you try this in VLC on your Mac?

1280x720, 30fps AVI
http://s17.quicksharing.com/v/6185009/30fps_2428_2686.avi.html

Does the video stutter? Audio and video in sync?

Technical details
trist's mpg (267 MB) compresses to ~183 MB letting XviD take what bitrate it wants (8000+ kbps). 60fps is about the same size. So ~1/3 size savings for this mpg. To get OTR under 300MB, I'd have to put a slightly lower ceiling on the bitrate. My guess it will still look very good.

Differentlife, YES, that seemed to work, look, sound, and sync just GREAT on both VLC and QuickTime!

I prefer to use QuickTime when I can, as it's not NEAR as buggy on my Mac as VLC can be sometimes, but gotta' keep VLC around of course for those files that nothing else seems to be able to play. Also, QuickTime will let you use full screen with the black background around the vid at actual size, whereas full screen in VLC automatically expands the vid to fill the screen – not good if you want the black background presentation with the vid at its original/actual size (for those vids that don't fill the screen at orignal /actual size of course, such as the great Vinman vids).

On THAT note Differentlife... do you think there's a chance you just MIGHT consider giving SOTR this special treatment sometime in the near future, or was it your plan to eventually do all them at some point anyway?!?!?!?!? I know at least ONE person that would be eternally grateful, especially for SOTR!

I feel so bad that CRB took the time and effort to upload the Trist SOTR files for me, and after all that, including many, many hours of my own trying everything I could think of to get them to work... there they sit... silently on my desktop... just taking up space. LOL... what a bummer knowing that the data is there, that the incredible HD sound and picture is right there in front of me... so close, but so far!

Thanks for at least taking a genuine interest in possibly helping me to get one step closer on this quest of mine!

P.S. How was the meatloaf???

I only just finished encoding OTR so didn't have time to upload it. (It ended up as a natural 298MB AVI without a bitrate ceiling.) I put up the full
It's All Coming Back to Me Now
http://www.sendspace.com/file/2vjjch

Are you able to download from megaupload? It's much easier for me to keep the links alive there.

This was an XviD conversion of trist's mpg, retaining 1280x720 resolution but cut down to 30 frames per second. It's a compromise for those who can't view the original mpgs, but it's still quite good. Apple sells an MPEG-2 Quicktime add-on for $20 if you want to preserve the excellence of trist's mpgs and give that a shot.

The meatloaf turned out a little wet. I have to keep dabbing at it with a red hankie!

Differentlife, "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" looked and played great on both VLC and QuickTime!

Thanks!

Now... as a last resort I DID just buy the $20 MPEG-2 for QuickTime, but as I suspected, no luck with that on the original trist files either.

I'm most grateful for your help and for what you've done so far, and greatly looking forward to anything you're able to take the time to "transform" and upload.

Thanks again – a great bunch of Kat fans here for sure!!!!

(Pulls out Dionne from finale and sings along) "In good times, in bad times..."

(wipes away tear)

If you have the Quicktime plugin, maybe you can try this freeware program "MPEG Streamclip" which uses the plugin.  I can't vouch for it but I guess Apple can since it's advertised on their website

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html

If that works, you can crank the MPGs through there and make your very own mp4s! From the screenshot, that program can handle 720p high def like trist's. Also, I remember seeing a Mac freeware viewer (somewhere on sourceforge) that uses the Quicktime MPEG-2 plugin, but I didn't write it down when I came across it.

I'm currently upping OTR. Only 2 more hours!
For the future, are you able to download from megaupload? (This one's going to sendspace)

CRB, you're not going to mention any particular names, are you?!

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!

THANK YOU,THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

That's it!!!

Finally!!!

OMG!!!

I can't believe it!!!

There is a God!!!

You good people are just TOO much over here!!!

Talk about going above and beyond the "call of duty!"

Just had to watch it... AGAIN!!!

Difflife, thanks for the suggestion on the Apple MPEG Streamclip, but I'm complete satified with these 30 fps files, and don't think I can afford to spend anymore time trying to get the original 60's to work at this point – as much as I was hoping too... lol... for everyone's sake.

As far as your Megaupload question, yes, should be no reason that I can't download from there, as I have in the past with no problems (famous last words).

I hope you can put yourself in my shoes for just a moment to have just a LITTLE idea how happy this all has made me...

stumbling across this site...

finding great photos...

finding the great Vinman caps...

finding a few kind and gracious Kat fans here willing to spend their time helping out a "newbie..."

and lasty, finally finding (after looking and waiting for over a year now) SOTR in HD full screen!!!

I don't know what else to say except, thanks a million once again!!!

Big thanks to CRB, differentlife and Royboy for all their recent informative comments and uploads!

As CRB noted, "QuickSharing links for the 300+MB mpg files are and have been a problem since they were uploaded".

However, in relation to Trist's HD.mpg "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". at least, that problem has now been finally solved by CRB's 'split/zipped' uploads to SendSpace [easily 'joined' via the free litle HjSplit utility program].  The resulting 60fps HD .mpg is absolutely stunning in clarity, even better than differentlife's XviD version, great as that was (Royboy, I would still tuck away those SOTR 60fps 'split' Trist HD.mpg files for the future when you can best view them on an upgraded PC!) .

For CRB:   Would it be possible for you to follow your successful SOTR split/zip 'n' upload with a similar split/zip 'n' upload of Trist's HD.mpg "Top 12 Girls Group Medley" [from the S05E41 Finale - see pg 1]?  That QuickSharing-linked file has proven to be similarly inaccessible to that of SOTR (and cannot, unlike some other files, be located elsewhere).

Congratulations on outstanding work which Royboy has rightly recognized in his posts!

Sure Kat Galore I can do that, split and upload the Girls Medley.  I'll start it now.

Just as a heads up to you all trist made an HD cap for Katharine's performance of Over It  on the Tonight Show and I was just checking the link and it works...but expires today (4/30/07)!
This cap is stunning HD in 1920 X 1080 the native frame size is so big that it fills my up my 23" Samsung monitor.  trist's post says that it dies today so get it while it is there. The first post in this thread has the link:

http://www.katharinefans.com/Forums/tabid/92/view/topic/forumid/26/postid/16934/Default.aspx

The only other file I've seen with a frame that large was a 2+GB torrent that Vinman did for Carrie Underwood's Grammy performance and win. Here is one still frame shot (this is not enlarged, this is the frame size!) from the trist and on from vinman's torrent....these files are off the hook and truly of unbelievable resolution.  trist slipped this into the old HD and other thread and I cannot believe that nobody ever bumped that thread.  It is crazy!

I downloaded that HD trist version of the Tonight Show but I don't know if that will refresh the link or how that works at that hosting service. If it doesn't refresh it I'll split that and upload it too, if anyone wants it. Here are both chunks of  trist's  HD cap of  the the Top12 Girl's Medley:

Chunk 1 of  2 Girl's Medley @ Sendspace

Chunk 2 of 2 Girl's Medley @ SendSpace

ATTN Royboy!

I might have a better solution for you. Can you try this 10 sec sample mpg from Bringing Out the Elvis?

http://www.sendspace.com/file/l0txu3

For me, it's now viewable in VLC. Hopefully for you too. If this works, I can repair all of trist's mpgs in the same way and you'll get the full high def experience (1280x720, 60fps), instead of a cutdown AVI.
btw halfway into the 17 MB upload, I was thinking I should have made it 5 seconds instead.

KatGalore, thanks for your recognition and kind words in your above post!

Differentlife... damn... you're STILL working on this??? Wow... and I thought ***I*** spent a lot of time on my passion for this stuff!

Not that I need (or want) to know what's technically going on here, but you say you can "fix" the Trist files? Was there something "wrong" with them per say, or not necessarily? Just wondering!

I'm downloading the test clip as I type this. (Time to upgrade to 3.0 cable or something instead of 1.5 DSL. My br
