I've got the swdcfan's ( from IDF)  four Dangerous YouTube clips ripped and converted to AVI format and joined together for easy downloadable viewing. Here is the link:

swdcfan's Dangerous clips 1-4 joined (AVI ~ 10 MB)

I tried to do the same with the four clips of Open Toes, but unfortunately the the third clip generates an error message in Super and can't be converted.

Thanks to Simon and all of you who captured media at this amazing San Antonio show. Kat constantly intrigues me with her song choices--and her picking 'Feeling Good' at the beginning is just one example of her pulling musical surprises out of nowhere seemingly. I would have never expected her to open a show with the classic 'Feeling Good'--especially since Michael Buble opened his shows last year with the same song and in the very same way (a cappella in the verse and turning around like that on the "good" line). I expected that thundering bluesy chord to hit there so Kat could go into the chorus. And then....the accompaniment to 'Open Toes' started. Then we see Kat getting testy on stage for the first time. Well, wouldn't you if the sound guys just screwed up your dramatic opening?

I'm just curious now if she was intending to sing all of 'Feeling Good'--or was she going to transition into 'Love Story' or something else? Anyway, Kat managed to appease all demographic levels of her fanbase again by picking an old standard to open her show. Nina Simone had the original hit of 'FG' I think in the 60's--though it was actually from a British West End show called 'Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd' and written by Anthony Newley/Leslie Bricusse. Edit: I just remembered the Pussycat Dolls did a cover of this last year--so Kat's probably basing it on their version.

Well, you all must see Kat's new hot dance moves on 'Dangerous' and 'Open Toes.' I'll just automatically assume she created those moves herself. They're deceptively simple as her moves were during the Idol tour--and they're perfect to showcase Kat's agile body without having to twist it into a pretzel. Also, any wild dancing would just make her out of breath--hence why 98% of pop stars who include hot dancing in live shows lip-synch. Are those Kat's original backup singers? If they are, they're also getting paid extra now to be backup dancers.

I guess that new arm move might be a variation of The McSnake--except with only one limb. It's amazing how Kat can make that look effective without having to do all that much.

And now the question has to be asked: Who decided 'Dangerous' would be on the set list? It sounded good, though,--especially with the added choreography. This proves that Kat wants to do some good dance songs when performing live...and 'Dangerous' obviously works better with some eye candy.

Some insinuated last night that maybe the wrong music playing was a stunt to showcase the other songs earlier. I don't think that was the case. Also, those sound guys must not be working for her directly. If they are, they probably got a pink slip by now...

As I said on the McPheeClub board last night (on Laurie's review thread)--I barely remember that 'Mary Jane' song from Alanis Morrissette. It was on her 'Jagged Little Pill' album in the 90's...and I had to go back and play it last night online to refresh my memory. Kat has a real knack for digging up forgotten songs like this that suit her personality. Hearing her debut things like this at a live show was obviously a major thrill based on the intense screams from people in the audience.

Overall, this was an amazing sneak preview into what Kat's full touring show might be like down the road. Her shows aren't going to be predictable in the least thanks to Kat getting bored easily and wanting to forge higher musical paths. I love artists who keep you musically intrigued every time rather than putting on robotic shows.

Not a dumb question at all.  It is the first stop on Katharine's "radio tour", specifically:

Katharine's an alternative artist?!

I like Kat's outfit, but I'm not sure if it's "alternative" enough. Her album cover photo blown up in the background just looks strange to me - it adds a darker element to the setting.

thank you Liz, swdcfan, and tiffanyyy of IDF for all the media! And thanks Simon and CRB for putting these all together in one place (and one Dangerous video!)

I tried to enhance the audio from IDF's LizlovesKat's Mary Jane. Here is the mp3 and the new audio combined with the original video. Original video and audio also reposted (hope Liz doesn't mind). As usual, kinda went with a light touch on my editing.

Well... BIG, BIG THANK YOUS once again to all katdom media gurus and to the people who were kind enough to share those videos.

That performances were incredible!!! Is unbelievable how fast she is growing as an artist ... Yes, that rendition of  "Mary Jane" was exquisite and Kat made it her own . Alanis Morissette is one of my favorite artists and that song is one of the most beautiful songs she has and is perfect for Kat.

Katharine McPhee - San Antonio Sound Check

a little bit of dangerous and love story

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P5V4tRsmco

Some interesting rehearsal footage there--so thanks for posting that. Those guys working around there (ladder carrier notwithstanding ) are lucky to be able to walk around and hear Kat perform live for free like that. It looks like Kat and the backup singers/dancers were doing every single move that they did during the show. Well, that choreography is more challenging than it probably looked. Getting it in sync probably involved hours of rehearsal time. And they did a good job keeping right together. I've seen lots of performers dancing together, and they sometimes can't keep together...despite weeks of practice time. Kat knows how to get things in order fast if she needs to. That's the nature of someone who's studied musical theater--because it works the same way in that career.

That's sort of strange that Kat has to keep asking the sound guys to give her "less music and MORE voice" on her mic. She asked the same thing during her performance in Toronto during the retake on 'Over It.' I hope those sound board guys aren't working for her...or they could get a pink slip pretty soon...despite Kat's probable attempts to not do that. Any sound techs who drown out her voice or screw up the accompaniment during the set list don't deserve their careers if you ask me. It was probably venue staff, though, who screwed that up. I can't imagine Kat would tolerate sound techies doing the same mistakes over and over again.

Yes, Kat's musical diversity just continues to surprise me every time. It shows there's lots of good songs out there Kat could cover and make successful if she wanted to. It's too bad things like 'Me' and 'Mary Jane' can't be marketed in the recording industry so she could have #1 singles. I would think those would go to #1 immediately if they'd release them. Perhaps that means Kat should do more covers on her next album along with a mix of originals.

The coverage was very well done. Thanks to all who were there and shared their experience. I also think Katharine should do more covers on her next album. She does her own arrangements and can enhance any song. Anybody should be happy to have Katharine McPhee record and perform their music.

That's quite an interesting observation there, Greg.  My guess is that there are standard settings they typically use for these types of gigs which are set-up to cover up for the vocal short-comings of lesser singers.  Obviously with her voice Katharine doesn't need any help from the tech guys to try and cover for her vocals.

I hardly think that they she deliberately had them play the wrong songs.  I'm sure the idea was to go directly from "Feelin' Good" to "Love Story"....it makes all the sense in the world to hit a certain note of FG and have those drumbeats hit right after and she can get things going and liven up the whole thing.

Anyway...don't be too picky about these videos people!  We're lucky to get anything.  I know I couldn't possibly video Katharine when she right there in front of me live.  I wouldn't be able to keep my arm still for the video to be at all useful to anyone.

Hopefully all the kinks will be worked out for the next one of these in Seattle.

And that is a good observation about the sound.  That's problematic at shows like this when you've got so many performers and possibly sound people that don't know who you are and what you are doing.  I'm sure they had clear instructions but mistakes can happen I guess.  She must not travel with her own sound people at this point in her career.  Just a guess...but she'll probably make very sure that everything is worked out during rehearsals on May 13th.

But the best thing about these shows is that she's got total freedom to sing whatever she wants.  Other than she probably has to sing Over It at this point but other than that....

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.
