Thanks to Katpack15 from IDF:
"The Simpsons" once featured a Chuck E. Cheese-style kids' restaurant with the slogan "We cram fun down your throat," which is more or less the "American Idol" machine's plan for Katharine McPhee on this debut record. The season five runner-up, a big-voiced
Broadway
wannabe on the show, is awkwardly painted as Gwen Stefani/Fergie by a surge of producers and
writers
on this anonymous-sounding pop album, cooing over dance tracks like "Open Toes" (which, despite its lyrics, is not Kellie Pickler's "Red High Heels") and "Love Story." McPhee is appealing, but lyrics like "From the first time I saw you/Well I thought that we'd be cool" don't do much to reveal her true personality. As was the case with
Taylor
Hicks
' debut in December, it's tough to imagine many fans listening to "Katharine McPhee" and recognizing the girl they voted for. —Jeff Vrabel"
Well, another reviewer just doesn't get it.
"She sings so magnificantly, it's just amazing" David Foster

Does this guy get that Katharine made the record for more than just people who voted for her on American Idol? Disregard this one despite the publication it comes from. Clearly doesn't get it.
"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

As with several reviews like this one, Katharine is commended beyond the lyrics, music of her album.
"McPhee is appealing
, but lyrics...don't do much to reveal her true personality. "tough...to recognize the girl (Katharine McPhee) they voted for."
The
bold
words are all I see.
We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

Apparently this person didn't read the liner notes either.
And then you have the rumors that Danja and Nate Hills are two different people...
Ok, the big league reviewers aren't being very kind, but Kat will just get to be the black horse (with no cherry tree) as she was on 'AI.' At least this person
gets
that Kat's appealing. That's pretty much the euphemism that the reviewer figures that the CD will do well in sales. In a way, the reviewer gives it away that he doesn't get it. That's too bad...because this person obviously didn't listen very carefully to ALL of the material rather than going in with the preconceived notion that all the songs are for teen girls.
Sorry to say, a lot of albums are placed with a preconceived stamp before they're even listened to. I saw a lot of musical categories Kat was already placed under last summer such as 'Teen Pop' or 'Teen Beat' (whatever that last one is). When a reviewer sees all those titles applied, they'll likely go into the album thinking they're listening to a teenybopper type of album. If you turn all that off, you discover there's a lot more there than that. And it's not all that subtle either. You'd think people would figure that out from even casual listening. It just goes to show that a preconceived notion will give you a distorted view.
Oh, and Kat wasn't a "wannabe" Broadway singer. Wait until Kat's playing a major role on Broadway in a few years...and she'll own this reviewer.
Also, I highly recommend cramming Kat's music down your throat as a substantive late-night snack...

Ok, I don't know about THAT, but I do know that Kat rules. Sometimes, less is more.

Most people who review music for a living are idiots, and this person is no exception. Even when they write a complimentary review, most times they just don't get it. And how can you give an objective opinion to a disc after giving it a quick listen? Some of the tracks don't grab you immediately, you have to savor them like fine wine. In the end, every track is great to some degree, and if the reviewers don't get it, enough people will and make it a great success.

I'm confused here...Did he review Kat or the album? I didn't see much critiquing of the latter....
"I think it was the summertime when I laid eyes on you. I didn't even know your name...The boy you never wanted just steals your heart..."--Kat McPhee, Love Story
"4 walls and no you. The silence in this room is so loud...wow"--Kat McPhee, I Lost You
"I didn't see the crash that burnt the bridge, didn't see the missile that sank my loveship down..."--Kat McPhee, Dangerous
"Wanting you to be wanting me, no that ain't no way to be...You never were a friend of mine..."--Kat McPhee, Over It
"No more lonely nights to hurt me, no more tears left to spare, no more reasons to be unhappy. You threw them all up in the air..."--Kat McPhee, Each Other
"Your pedicure, white-tipped French. Your legs don't make no sense...Shoes like these make me hate flats..."--Kat McPhee, Open Toes
