Thanks to zembla at IDF:

(Looks like they left out the "pig" phrase. I didn't mean to write a misleading headline, I just didn't read it until after I had posted it and assumed that phrase would be in there!)

Great! Thanks for posting this!

I'm also pleased that she didn't actually call him a pig (even if he is). Her phrasing was much more diplomatic while still being really clear. Good for her! Go Kat!!

I think they just left the pig comment out of the printed interview, she was quoted as having said it so probably did, and good for her anyway.

I lose track of her publicity (there's so much - woohoo!). Where was she actually quoted, please?

Just got back from the original "pig" thread. There's a link to the Howard Shrine. Not sure that I would trust that source. LOL Since they seem to be proud to display that horrible parody lyric at the top. They could have paraphrased her actual printed quote (above) to suit their tastes (which are trashy).

Thanks Phee for putting all of this up on here for us. I think it is another informative interview with good pics too. It's probably best the supposed "Pig" quote was left out. It would probably cause some negative feedback towards Kat, even though I totally agree with her!

Oh yeah, and I loved the interview too.   So candid, and humble as usual.

I even love the misuse of the word ambiguity.   She's so frickin cute!

Kat's suddenly turned into a literary character full of existential ambiguity.

That's quite an interesting interview with some new and interesting answers...so thanks for scanning that. I've never heard of 'Steppin' Out' magazine before either.

It seems to me that this was a different answer to the first Howard Stern question...unless Kat's publicist (Roger W.) managed to have that changed at the last minute before the mag went to press. I don't remember if the initial Popdirt article mentioned the source or not (a source to them is thin air and a fly on the wall)--but we'll likely never know. From all indications, Howard hasn't unleashed his minions to go out and make Kat's life hell in retaliation. In a sense, that shows he has some element of respect and just let it roll off his back...if Kat actually called him a bovine at all. The initial quote could have been bogus (or even set up by Howard's inner circle) to try to smear her reputation.

By the way, I see numerous misprints in this article (tsk tsk you copy editors)--so I doubt Kat said "ambiguity" anyway. I'm sure Kat understands the difference between "ambiguity" and "anonymity"--even though those two words may be coming closer to one another in Hollywood lately.

Interesting question about whether Simon's made any comment about Kat's album. I don't think he likes that kind of music...so it's probably best he keep his lip zipped. But maybe even he thought Kat would do a contemporary standards album. That's why he chose 'OtR' for her...because he knew she could handle that type of material so well. I'd be curious what his expectations were for her. Though he frequently stays mum about any former contestants and what they're doing in their careers.

Thanks Phee. Another great interview from Steppin Out.  This  excerpt was interesting:

Interviewer: Do you think you would have become a star if not for "American Idol"?

Kat:
I don't know. I really don't To be honest, I don't think I really deserve any of this!

Interviewer: Of course you do.

Kat:
I really don't think that I do. would I be successful without "American Idol"?  I would like to think so because  I would have kept pursuing it regardless. But I just don't think that's the case.

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

I get the feeling the little girl who grew up thinking she was stupid may be closer to the surface than we realize. Her head has straightened out a lot of stuff, but something in her still feels unworthy for reasons we may never be able to fathom. I wonder if she rereads stuff like this and says "Good lord, did I say that?" The further back into our childhood a trauma goes, the harder it is to eradicate it, because it wormed its way in deep when we had fewer defenses against it.

I agree, Groucho, that Kat may actually feel unworthy of her enormous recent success (and the unrestrained praise she receives from luminaries like David Foster and Andrea Bocelli). But her obviously-honest affection for other people and her sincere modesty are rare and HUGE assets in a performing arts world populated by egomaniacs like Jim Carrey (who was rendered harmless by an instantaneous McPheever infection on TRL this Tuesday --HaHa) !  Ohhh, and I wouldn't be surprised if her quote in Stepping Out, "There are some times I miss my ambiguity...." is an accurate one. Ambiguity in my dictionary is defined as "doubtfulness or uncertainty". My best friend and I used to agree that "anticipation is better than participation" when we were Kat's age --by participation we meant the actual experience of what had been hoped for (in anticipation). Hope is uncertain but exhilarating; fame is concrete but daunting. I've experienced tremendous success (and crushing responsibility) in my career in the space program, and I often reflect back to the years in my 20's to savor my memory of the magic and exhilaration of uncertainty! So whatever contributed to her charm, wit and genuine love for others, I really believe Katharine has been richly blessed by her childhood experiences and her psychological makeup --they make her the remarkable person she is today!!!

I just read this interview and I loved it. Kat was so honest and sweet saying those great things about the other American Idol runner-ups. To say that, she doesn't think she deserves all of this, was a huge shock to me. I think she definitely deserves to use the gift that she has been given to create great music. Going through all of those pain-staking efforts to impress the judges and developing a fan base for herself, while going through and dealing with Bulimia. Dealing with bronchitis and breaking her foot and the hard work it took to make an album, and she is saying, she doesn't deserve it? I think she has fought off enough demons to get to where she is. Someone who goes through so much pain and pressure, while maintaining a very beautiful voice and personality, but comes out triumphant is someone who deserves all of this success. I hope that she is only saying this because she is shocked at how much success she really has from this album.

All I can say is, "Never for a second think that you don't deserve it because you truly do with all of your hard work and effort". I'm saying that as if I was talking to her.

I wish I could comment on the other parts of the interview but this was the part that really struck me.

Who is Howard Stern?

The guy who says he's the father of Anna Nicole's baby.    Oh the other one?  Nevermind.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.
