The singer said that she was granted a surprising amount of control over the direction of the debut CD, and although some songs were given to her, she also has a hand in writing some of them. "They let me make the record I want to make,"she said. "I recorded over 20 songs but the ones on the record are the ones I wanted on it. I actually had more control than I realized at the time and could have probably put my foot down even more, but it was all new to me, so it was a learning experience." One aspect of the CD that McPhee said she might change is the eclectic nature of it. While it largely sits in a modern pop vein, it veers off into various other sub-genres toward the end. "I wanted it to be cohesive and the first half of it is," she said. "But at the end of the day, it's a learning experience, and I think it's fine for a first record."

She's talked about how much she loves the songs she did with Ryan Leslie & Chad Hugo before and those didn't make the CD. She changes her mind on what her favorite song on the record is all of the time though so...I guess it's her prerogative.
The second half of the album? I think she's talking mostly about the sequence that is Ordinary World-Do What You Do-Better Off Alone. It's just an odd pairing of songs. She says she loves Neglected. She's gushed about Babyface so I presume so likes Everywhere I Go.
But saying "they let me make the record I want to make" doesn't mean she is happy with every song. She was at the mercy of songwriters to come up with something in a hurry. I think she's saying that they let her go in the DIRECTION she wanted with the record but maybe not all the songs are her favorites. Perhaps she should have said, "They let me make the TYPE of record I wanted to make."
