full article at MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19079608/  along with seacrest says Simon is to blame for the ratings drop.

This article does not do Katharine any good, as the bloggers now will have a field day about Nick.Nick seems to be the BIGGEST drawback to fans embracing Katharine.

McPhee fans fight back
In other “American Idol” news, Katharine McPhee fans are outraged that the former contestant was treated rudely on a Washington D.C. radio station. Now the show’s DJ, Kane, is hitting back.

McPhee was interviewed by an intern named Ally on Hot 99.5’s The Kane Morning Show. The interview was supposed to be in the studio and the station had agreed that McPhee wouldn’t be asked any personal questions. But McPhee didn’t show up at the studio — handlers explained that her flight had been delayed — and one of the first questions the intern asked the 23-year-old singer was about her 42-year-old boyfriend. The intern asked if having a boyfriend who was so much older hurt or helped the relationship. An obviously irritated McPhee said she didn’t want to discuss her private life and the interview went downhill from there.

Angry fans deluged Kane with hate mail. “Maybe she should have been nicer and been live as she promised,” Kane replied to some of them.

The angry calls and e-mails kept coming, and Kane shot back a lengthy response. “I’m getting increasingly frustrated by e-mails from McPhee fans that don’t know the whole story and are writing me angry e-mails,” Kane wrote to them, scolding, “It makes Kat look bad when ever other word in your e-mail about how you thought we didn’t handle the interview professionally starts with an f---.”

He went on to describe in detail a scenario in which he said McPhee was pitched to the radio show on the condition that she appear live, that the appearance be pre-promoted, and that there would be no personal questions. He also challenged the excuses he was given for her failing to appear live — pointing out, for example, that the flights from L.A. to Washington weren’t delayed that morning.

“Slam us, go-head,” Kane wrote. “We agreed to have her on; we followed the rules. They didn’t tell the truth. Kat could have had a little more fun with Ally. She could have said, ‘You guys know you’re not supposed to ask me personal questions. What’s wrong with you?’ Rather, she just got mad.”

You are probably right, but what it does show is that the folks who emailed vulgarity and offensive language in their emails hurt Kat more than helped her. This is now becoming the focus of the discussion and NOT how they conducted the interview. And that is exactly the point of how Kane has spun this. Wehn you use language like that you lose your argument immediately. People become defensive and turn all the focus on that and not the substance of your complaints.

Articles like this certainly is not good for Katharine's image to the public, however unfortunately we will probably see more negative comments from this than good. Articles from the Well Done Awards and from the Special Olympics is what we need to see more  of, but that is not what the press and beat writers pick up on. They strive on controversy and Katharine needs to try not giving them that.

As I said in the other (interview) thread, we need to stop being over protective and antagonistic, and look for constructive means  to  combat  detractors. Kat fans have a history of reacting this way, and it almost always attracts the wrong kind of attention from the press and others who are looking for an excuse to dislike Kat. Hopefully this matter will die down before it gets totally out of control.

We are, in a strange way, Kat's ambassadors. For whatever reason, many people will judge Kat on our behavior. Just keep that in mind before lashing out at a perceived enemy.

I completely agree. I did send an e-mail but I never used foul language...not my style and definately counterproductive!  I'm surprised people would cuss in an e-mail...bad manners and sadly, we and Kat are getting the short end of the stick. BTW...I wonder if people really did use the FFF word or if he made that up to make us look bad?  We'll never know.  The sad thing is that we highlighted ourselves and Kat in a neg way and the way Ally presented herself and the station now looks like they are the "good guys"...oh well...moving forward...

This article looks like Kane has a friend at MSNBC. It's totally his side of the story.

I checked for responses to the article, but was afraid to go past the first page. There was only one posting about Kat that I saw. Most were about Ryan & Simon. Whew. Maybe not too many people noticed the story "below the fold."

Well, I’ve been reading these threads for quite some time and it seems to be loosing track of our goal. Obviously her music is good, few can logically argue with that. She’s got great voice and amazing talent. So then we have a situation like this, and let’s face it, I can’t blindly fall head on into a Katharine defense. I read the facts and come to my own conclusion, and it sucks, but Katharine isn’t always immortal. She seems to have made a tough call here and is being dragged through the mud because of it. IMHO, Kane and co. acted in a predictable way and if Katharine expected something else she should have committed to a bit more research. Furthermore, Kane only acted out because he was pressured by the Katharine side of the fence, i.e. rash fansboys. Sucks.
In the end, I think I think this is more than just a woman singing, and respect is given where it is due. Katharine is a production of finely tuned parts. Her producers, PR reps, song writers and unknown others create something truly amazing that I for one want to stand up and sing along with. In the past few months it seems the frontline of this production, Katharine, has been forced to show her true colors and maybe those colors aren’t exactly what we were hoping for. But then I realize the real reason I love sitting back and throwing on a Kat CD, it’s the production of every person who submitted input to create something better than me (if I had a good voice) singing into a mic. For that, I still cheer. However, for that, I also try to remain level headed and not pulled unknowingly into the consuming wake of a celebrity.
Just asking for real, honest content.

The only true way to come to a resolution on this ridiculous media "war" is to realize that management of celebrities is starting to become a distinct separate entity from the actions of the star themselves. A lot of people probably think that the celeb should always be in contact with their management, know what's going, work out problems, etc. But that just isn't possible when the celeb is always on the go. That's why they hire these people so they can do things the celeb can't.

In Kat's case, it's obvious she doesn't always know the mechanics of what's going on internally with managing appearances, choosing singles, etc. I think she overhears her people discussing things that she'll occasionally share with her fans in blogs, etc., or in casual convos. Overall, though, the big business decisions and decisions on where Kat will appear is all up to her management who just tell her where and when to go. Unfortunately, what a star's management does usually all falls on the celeb's own shoulders when something like this goes awry. It's similar to when a film flops and the stars in the film take the brunt of the criticism rather than the director/producers/writers.

So I hope there's a separation of Kat herself from what her management may or may not do right. She shouldn't change her management because they seem to do everything else right. And I'm not even sure they did anything wrong here either. I get the feeling they did their homework on that Kane guy's show and realized that show had tendencies toward shock-jock territory at times. They probably freaked over that and recommended Kat not go there live lest they make her do something embarrassing right in the studio. Then again, it probably would have broken the ice better had she been there live and that intern asked the stupid questions right to her face.

Kat and her people should ignore this media pick-up of this time-wasting story. It'll go away pretty fast if they do...even though that Kane guy will continue to try to get a rise out of Kat in any way possible...just for the pathetic reason of ratings.

What is she supposed to have done? She doesn't book her own appearances. Somebody got ticked off because she supposedly blew them off in favor of a rival radio station. They struck back--only they hit the wrong person and the ricochet wound up in fandom, and then the fans got ticked off. They're upset about emails with a couple of f-bombs in them, we're upset because the entire crew over there sounds like a bunch of snickering, mean spirited, juvenile bullies. And what's worse, they used their own personnel in the attempt to get at Katharine (18 year old intern on her first or second assignment). Such gentlemen. I am so impressed.

the truth of some small wannabe shockjock dj, finally brought to the forefront in all of this. what is his problem, he sounds obsessed with Kat. thanks to KatPack15, this was a very good read. hopefully this dj's 15 min. is almost up and this thing passes. Kat didn't deserve this.

Woo-Hoooo!!!  That's a great article, and a great review of what's happened here with this "Ambush Interview" thing.

I wrote in another thread out here that I hoped that the Bad Karma that this guy Kane was spewing out would splash back on him & haunt him for what he's tried to pull on Kat.  Looks to me like "Kane's Karma" has already started to BACKFIRE ON HIM!!  I think that he's going to find out that there a LOT more Kat-Phans out here than he first thought, and some of them have a bit more "pull" in the music industry than he anticipated.

I say,.... "GOOD!!"

I wonder what'll be next?... Might Carrie U. & Chris D. give him the cold-shoulder over a request from him for an interview w/ them as well?

Kat's Comment to me:

"Lauren,
don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too!

WOW! That was a satisfying read! I'm so glad to see the backlash against what Kane pulled. I hope Kat has seen this article criticizing what they did to her.

Dear Longtimereader, have you heard the interview, and have you heard the commentaries of Kane and his folks about the interview, and how they had no sense of remorse. The only "remorse" Kane gave was he had to send apology cards to Kat implying he'll be wacked by his management. Don't you see how unprofressional they are to say the least. How can you turn the table and blame Kat for that?

In the interview, although we sensed that Kat must be getting very angry, she still was very composed and poised in her answers. We can see how inherently a good person she is.
