Per the Popdirt.com blog.  I guess that explains the new U.S. performance dates.

No UK Release For Katharine McPhee
Posted on Monday, June 18 @ 23:25:29 CDT by MusicMan

Gossip According to Popjustice.co.uk, SonyBMG have decided not to release the Katharine McPhee single 'Over It' in the UK. The 'American Idol' season five runner-up had been mentioning plans to promote her music across the pond, but one wonders if her recent comments about 'Over It' caused the label bosses to reverse course. On the plus side, things still look a go for an Australian release of 'Over It' and her self-titled album on July 7th.

But popjustice, the source itself, took back their comments:

Erm, Sony have now decided not to release Katherine McPhee's 'Over It' (also known as "one of the easiest Top 10 hits in the history of 2007") in the UK after all. The curse of Popjustice strikes again, etc etc.

Now, we're not qualified lawyers, but we suppose their refusal to make the song commercially available in this country and the fact that they therefore stand to make £0.00 out of it sort of means that you could, in theory, illegally download it with a clear conscience because it would not adversely affect the income of the label, the singer or the songwriters.

The song is currently on 'single song repeat' at Popjustice HQ, and has been for the last twenty minutes. Amazing.

EDIT: Apparently it's on UK iTunes so most of what we wrote above is complete bollocks. Have a good weekend! PJx

So, I need another source to believe

I guess we just have to tell ourselves that it would be worse if nobody was talking about her at all. Because the more famous and popular she becomes, the more of this stuff we're going to have to sift through. At least they retracted it.

That's what it says alright. I guess you can't believe everything you read, especially if it's quoted by someone else!

They canceled the release of the single, but it's on iTunes. Why do we think that her promotional tour is cancelled as well? Will the album still be released on July 30?

I love seeing those British terms used in press releases and other media. The U.S. would look a lot more refined if we called out B.S. by saying "That's a load of Bollocks!"

I'm glad to hear this (possibly) isn't true. Canceling a song release in the UK I'd think would be unprecedented with a major artist such as Kat. Even so, she'd go Platinum a lot faster in Australia where 80,000 sold designates you that. Nevertheless, I was looking forward to seeing Kat on UK media in July. If she's ultimately not going there...then Australian TV (presumably in August) will be just as entertaining. You're going to love seeing some of the shows down there and giving Kat the opportunity to say or do things she wouldn't be able to on American TV. It's a wonderland for people who like to be honest.

As far as that comment goes about Kat blasting 'Over It': Someone should send the link to Rhapsody of Kat singing a more poignant version of the song. She was clearly talking about the arrangement rather than the song itself. With the re-imagining, you can tell she truly clicks with the song. In fact, I heard things in the lyrics for that (and 'Each Other') I'd never heard before. That tells you arrangement is everything in how the emotion of a song can be conveyed. 'OI's' basic song structure isn't bad at all. But it's too bad Kat couldn't release the new version of 'OI' in the UK. They'd go nutso for that over there...and especially Australia.

Hopefully we'll get a 100% confirmation on the UK promotion. I noticed today that the added U.S. date with Hilary Duff in August was canceled. That give some indications that maybe the UK trip WAS off for a few days...and then further negotiations picked it back up again.

Imo, Over It would have done very well in the UK. I personally have been upset with Katharine trashing her own songs and this proves that she stands to lose because of it. Maybe, since this was only popjustice commenting, everything will be back on track soon.

I don't believe any of this is definite.

I've never understood what she meant by that comment about OI. of course we can never be totally sure when we've heard something exactly the way it was said. We just get somebody's report of it, unless we've seen the video, and even those get cropped and edited. She certainly puts a lot into the acoustic version, which she restyles and reworks almost into a different song, full of emotion and life, and you'd never know she had any problems with it. Maybe she didn't like the studio version, or didn't like the idea of it being the first single. Or maybe she's just a good actress who can take the material she's given and breathe life into it, like it or not. I just don't know what to think.

I hate it when things make perfect sense to us (like releasing this in UK since they already have it on itunes) - but make NO sense in the general scheme of things.....(like not inviting the runner up to AI season 6)......makes you really wonder what the HELL is going on in the background that we aren't privvy to.....
