Katharine McPhee - Part 2 ('Save Ellis Island' Project, June 23 2007) - 10 HQ pictures

Stephanie D. Smith

FOR A CAUSE:
Phillips-Van Heusen Corp.'s Arrow brand will shoot the second installment of its fall ad campaign at Ellis Island this weekend. A random group of celebrities who all claim family ties to Ellis Island will be photographed by Richard Phibbs, including Kristen Cavallari from MTV's "Laguna Beach," singer Katharine McPhee and Elliott Gould. The celebs, along with "real" Americans, will appear in Arrow's first national ad campaign in four years, launching in print, billboards, cinema and public service announcements. The campaign will support the nonprofit organization Save Ellis Island. Allen Sirkin, president and chief operating officer, said the budget was tripled on this campaign, compared with years past. During the first photo shoot in May, Christian Slater and Richard Belzer were among the celebrities shot by Phibbs. — A.W.

Katharine McPhee

As everyone knows by now, I’m a sucker for Katharine McPhee. To be more specific, I’m a sucker for Katharine McPhee pictures. Here she is looking good and doing some good; getting her photo taken for the Save Ellis Island Project. Attractive, talented, and helps in a good cause? Can she be any more perfect?

What a quip there saying that "real" Americans will participate with the celebs. Looks like celebrities here will forever be branded "cardboard cutout" Americans.

Thanks for the additional info on this campaign. I have to look up more info on this--because I have a family connection with Ellis Island myself and haven't visited there yet to see the wall of names. I've seen a photo of my great-grandfather's name on the wall though. Donating to save whatever needs to be saved there (well, we know it's not sinking) is an important charitable cause. Our government should be taking care of Ellis Island, but it appears to be out of their hands now.

I'm guessing Kat's participation here will just be the photoshoot and not a PSA. I couldn't tell from the photos whether she was also shooting a PSA to air on TV. Considering she isn't talking much in the photos--it must be just a photo spread we'll be seeing in magazines all over...hopefully (and aptly) around the Fourth of July. It's too bad she couldn't be photographed in relation to the Statue of Liberty rather than inside that abandoned structure or whatever that place is. Seeing Kat looking out over the water with Nick as the Statue of Liberty is shown to the upper left is dramatic and breathtaking. That's the feeling anybody would get standing there and realizing that millions of American lives started right there.

Good to see that article writer saying he's a "sucker" for Kat. I wish he'd say he was a sucker for her singing...but it's turning into "especially a Kat picture" type of response lately. That's obviously ok, as long as it doesn't become the first thing on people's minds when they say her name or think of her.
