20.  Screen Name: cobabycmw
Eliminated on March 28:   Phil Stacey

And I'll be at the results show with Vadia - CoDia will be in da house watching this live!!  Oh, just watch it be Sanjaya who is eliminated - I'll let out a scream of joy and probably get glared down by the Teeny Bops.  CoDia will write a full recap of how everything went down.

BTW, I was able to get tickets because I signed up last season for the list to get AI tickets.  Apparently, my name was up and they sent me an e-mail, I had 3 choices to choose from 1) The rehearsal show on Tuesday at 12:30 PT; 2) The live show on Tuesday; or 3) The Wednesday Results show.  I missed my opportunity for the live show because I waited to long to reply, so I chose the Results Show since Gwen Stefani, Akon and Pink are performing - plus the whole drama of being there live will be intense, I can't wait!    Oh and FYI - You only get this one chance each season to get tickets, if I passed up this opportunity I would have to sign up again to get back on the list for tickets.

My quote from last night: Actually, Chris S. seems to be slipping badly and showing that maybe he's not the best musician in the world. He probably should take some singing lessons with a professional to stop doing that problem he has of going ahead of the beat and not feeling the groove of some songs like tonight. Most singers worth their salt would be able to feel the downbeat on the song he did...and he may have set himself up for an exit next week.  With all the left-turns, though, even he could go tomorrow night. I'm surprised to say that Chris S. was one of the worst last night next to Sanjaya (who actually belted a song for once).

I sort of called it--even though I never go with my gut for my final answer.   There's been some definite signs, however, that Chris was self-destructing. Intentional perhaps? Why would someone give a shout-out to the guy who runs VFTW.com (he did it on the show before last) if they didn't want to get the hell out of there? Based on some interviews I saw on my local Fox affiliate news, he wasn't happy with the set up of the show. And, as we know, he was more than a little acerbic about it. You could tell he was biting his tongue more than once...especially tonight when Simon said that "curly was going home."

Not to worry about Chris S.--because he'll get a better recording contract from this show, undoubtedly.

One unrelated note: I liked that western theme in the contestants' Ford commercial tonight. I'm thinking they could have had Chris R and Chris S have a duel shootout just to make things subtle.

Well, I think we've learned that we can't really predict anything on this show--even when going beyond logic. I did see the signs of Chris Sligh going pretty soon though. Next week, it could be anybody, because singing standards (or, I guess it'll be just Tony Bennett songs) will be the true test of vocal ability. I see Melinda, Jordin and Lakisha doing great with this. Blake will either do well or do badly at this type of music. I suspect he'll do just great at it though. This may be Haley's cup o' tea too--so she'll be sticking around I think. This could be it for Sanjaya--so keep praying.

Imo, only 5 contestants are pretty well assured of being safe this week:

Melinda, as usual brought it, again proving her excellence in any given genre. Lakisha redeemed herself from last week's uninspired lackluster performance and she is on top to stay. Jordin and Blake both proved to be fresh and innovative, and Gina hit a home run with her supurb vocals.

The rest of the pack: Chris Sligh struggled with rhythm, Phil struggled with his phrasing/breathing rendering a weaker performance than he is capable of. Haley was uninteresting and forgettable. And Sanjaya, well he is a total embarrassment to the competition. Sad it is when the judges biggest challenge is to keep from laughing at a competitor.  I picked Haley to be eliminated and I'm sticking with that choice.

Gwen was very winning last night - very pretty and much more normal than I would have suspected. I'm not a fan of her entertainment persona, but off-stage she seems like a rather together gal.

Leaving Melinda aside, I thought Phil put in the best effort last night - he finally made a good song choice for his voice. Nice to see what he can do, finally.

I appreciate Jordin's efforts to mix things up every week - she's the most daring performer in the bunch. But I didn't think she quite pulled it off last night. But props for the effort.

The rest? Predictable and boring. Even Melinda, as great a singer as she is, is getting boring - you show me the song list for the week and I'll easily pick out the one she'll be singing. A Donna Summer song last night? Not exactly a stretch.

I like Haley, but I think she's going home tonight. Not that she's even a top contender in this competition, but there's something about that her grabs me. I hope this means I can avoid getting sucked into this cheesefest of a program again, LOL.

It would be great if No Doubt had a surprise reunion and performance tonight.

Alright, once again all of our picks totally sucked.  Only one point will be awarded this week and that's to Spree for having Chris Sligh in 8th place.  Everyone else had him at least 7th which isn't good enough to get anything this week.  And then nobody got the elimination pick right either.  So another uneventful week of scoring here.

Spree moves from tied for 7th to tied for 3rd.  The group that was tied for 7th is now tied for 8th and everyone else is in the same spot.  Let's hope next week is more successful.  I'm not where to go for an elimination pick.  Tony Bennett songs?  Hmm...here's the scoreboard:

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! OK, some thoughts about this week's show.  I think the best performance goes to Gina.  I was almost ready to send her packing too.  I need her to stick around since I picked her for 4th place after her inspiring rendition of that Evanescence song.

Most chancy performance:  Jordin.  I don't think it was a great vocal by Jordin's standards but I give her points for taking a risk by doing "Hey Baby".  She could have done with Lakisha & Melinda did and do something so predictable like Donna Summer but she didn't.  I actually thought Jordin was going to sing "Don't Speak" but she decided to have some fun instead.

And then more credit to Blake for singing songs I don't believe have ever been thought of being sung before on Idol.

I thought the bottom three was going to be Chris S, Haley and Phil with Phil going home.  I've given up on Sanjaya.  I'm not sure how long this can happen but I wouldn't be shocked if he made Top 5 at this rate.  If one of the Elite Four (despite my dislike for Lakisha...she's in that group) goes before Sanjaya.  They need to dramatically revise the rules.

But surprisingly it was Chris Sligh.  I think we all thought he was going to be more popular than he turned out to be.  His personality doesn't come through in his singing.  That's a major problem unless you a majorly great singer.  And even then it's a problem.

I actually thought Phil did a pretty good job this week but I didn't think he had much of a fanbase so I figured he was going anyway.

And that leaves me with Haley.  Oh Haley.  Maybe it's the Kat Curls dangling from her head but...I have to admit I was rooting for her to stay tonight.  Is she a great singer?  No, she's alright.  I think Diana Ross said she'd be better in a recording studio than performing live.  But...if we can't have a total package like Katharine around this year at least we can get her by taking pieces of everyone.  So you have to have Haley around to accomplish that.   I think I'm just a sucker for that Kat hair.

Just a note on the scoring for next week.  I anticipate points going on the board.  Here's the parameters:

4 points available for the Top 12 picks:

If the person you picked 9th goes home....a perfect 4 points for you.

If who you picked 8th or 10th goes home...3 points.

If your 7th or 11th place pick goes home...2 points

6th or 12th place...1 point.

If the person was in your Top 5...0 points.

And then of course the elimination point will be out there as well.  So the scoreboard SHOULD get moving next week.  I sincerely hope so.
