Speaking of Syesha...anyone think that Cowell may have been trying to get her some extra votes by saying she's in trouble this week?  I seriously doubt he really believes she deserves to go more than Brooke or Jason.  I think he knows how the voting public reacts to the judges comments now and that was emphasized the prior week when Carly went away.  Jason or Brooke should have gone and the judges said so...instead we got Carly & Syesha in the bottom and I thought they were the two best that week.

IMO Simon knows that Syesha is on the bubble having been in the bottom three in recent weeks.  At this point it's a voting competition between fan bases, and he knows Syesha likely has the smallest one of the remaining contestants based on recent results.  Knowing she was the most likely to go last night, he tried to make himself look smart by saying she was in trouble, then if she did go he would look like a "genius".

I know it's not realistic, but I don't think the judges should get to hear the dress rehearsals.
Not if their comments are supposed to actually mean anything. But of course that's unrealistic
for a lot of reasons. They have to figure out the timing of the shows, and Idol is notorious for
running over, but still, here's what I don't understand. Do the judges actually critique the singers
at the DR? Wouldn't that give the contestants the opportunity to change things completely? And
what if the timing was completely different from one show to the next? Unless you have things
totally scripted, or at least way more so than the audience probably realizes, how could it work?
I get that the contestants need the rehearsal, and the stage crew does, etc., but the judges could
just stay home and take a nap. Since they changed the format in mid-stream and threw Paula totally
for a loop, what good did the rehearsal do the judges anyway? Obviously it just created a colossal
problem, and there was poor Ryan being forced to defend the state of Paula's sobriety or something
because she was "family and we love her." Oi, what a mess.

Oh, and I'm patting myself on the back for voting for Syesha all these weeks, although now it looks like
I should have added in a few for MJ and Carly, which totally took me by surprise. Now if Archuleta does a
Daughtry I think the whole world will have a mass spasm of disbelief.

mattsie - There's a show on the CW that's exclusively for hot, talented girls already - it's called Girlicious, and it just wrapped up. I think Idol is supposed to be for everybody. I would enjoy the show less if the same type of singer won every year.

bcollan - Hmmm, I don't like Kat being described as a Disney princess; I prefer to think of her as an "aspirational figure" to young girls. That sounds more distinguished.

DJ Co, I hope you're good at remixing; this season's compilation of highlights will need a lot of help.

It would've been funny if Ryan sent Paula to the couch after he affirmed her place on the show.

Syesha will appear more impressive in the history books than she does now in the present. Her problem is the songs/style she's presented is mostly played out at this point; if she had been on the show in the early years, she'd have been more loved. Also, her backtalking to the panelists is not helping her with the public.

This pool is frustrating - I gained 10 points, doubling my total, but still lost ground on the leader.

Right,Groucho..what a mess!Paula's flub has received much media attention...even the NY Times gave it coverage!
Of course, questions about the show's credibility are again raised, but just read that even though ratings have dropped, they are still 7 million viewers ahead of the nearest show in the timeslot. The PTB are therefore cocky, stating that all the Judges and Ryan are safe...not getting kicked off the island anytime soon. They also say that if The Price is Right has lasted all these eons, then Idol could do the same........ugghh!Picture AI 20: Simon with a gray crewcut and Paula, not really that much more confused.......turn up your hearing aid,Randy!!

Oh, about the prizes...where's my Taylor Hicks CD!  Isn't that what the winner was going to get last year?    OK, I don't really want it.  Nevermind.

Joe, if you really want that Taylor Hicks CD, I'll see if I can find you one.   Okay, so on to the winner of the Fabulous Five Week Prize . . .

We had three people (Kate4ChrisandKat, trsf and Shinamarih) who picked Brooke White to leave this week, who were entered in a drawing to win an American Idol Gift Card and AI-7 CD Mix, the lucky winner is . . . .  Kate4ChrisandKat!!

I hate for people to go home empty-handied, so trsf and shinamarih will also get a copy of the A-7 CD Mix too!

I'll be sending the three of you a PM to get your mailing address.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I think Jason goes this week, even if he isn't the low votegetter. Has he made any sort of progression, since the beginning of the competition (other than learning to play the ukulele)? I really don't want to listen to him sing 3 songs the following week.

Kristy Lee Cook greets hometown fans
American Idol seventh-place finisher signs autographs in Selma
Cameron Cota, 8, gets her soccer ball signed by American Idol contestant Kristy Lee Cook in front of Ray’s Food Place in Selma Saturday.Jamie Lusch

It was easily the biggest thing that ever happened here.

"American Idol" seventh-place finisher Kristy Lee Cook came home and, ensconced at a table in front of Ray's Food Place, she signed publicity pictures for thousands of fans, who stood in a line snaking around the parking lot and held up their kids to be photographed with her.

Cook, 24, didn't sing, which is what won her fame on the Fox TV show, belting out "Rescue Me," "You're No Good" and "God Bless the USA."

"You're completely stressed out, no sleep, like you don't have a brain at times," she said of her weeks competing in Hollywood, but now, for a while, it's nice to be back with friends and family in tiny Selma, training and riding her beloved horses.

"It's been a long road to get to where I am. I've been singing since I was 13. I'm happy I'm finally there," says Cook.

Grabbing up her momentum, Cook plans to take off to Nashville and see if she can sign to a record label and get her career in gear.

Her advice to blooming young artists: "Keep dreaming "¦ you'll eventually get where you want to go."

Delighted kids romped away from their handshakes and autographs, clutching Cook's picture. Said teen Brianna Linden, "She's from here and a really good singer. We all love her."

Coming from Sunny Valley with her small daughter Cameron, Natalia Cota said, "We've all enjoyed her singing so much. It's wonderful for Oregon to have its own celebrity. You have to be talented and down to earth to make it in that crazy world and she is."

Fans will get a chance to hear her again when the American Idol contestants do their singing tour across the country. The only reasonably close venues are the Portland Rose Garden on July 11; Sacramento, Calif., on July 9; and Tacoma, Wash., on July 12.

The country singer's mother, Carlene Cook, busily managed the event, worrying about not being able to get the thousands of fans up to the table for autographs.

"It's been fun, exciting, very emotional. It's wonderful she got as far as she got. God had a big part in it, from the choice of songs to her being in the bottom three times before getting voted off," she said.

Coming from Bend with family members, Teresa Morgan said she watched all Cook's performances and "she had great confidence, held herself up strong and, with perseverance, represented her town beautifully."

Security guard Chris Tuso of Grants Pass echoed the theme — that a star must be down to earth and "real" to make the big time.

"It shows how far a local person can go with some support. She did a pretty darn good job. She was real on TV. This (event in Selma) is real. Like her getting with people who are disabled," said Tuso, gesturing at her posing for pictures with disabled children.

One loyal fan, Lori Colbert of Selma, predicted, "you betcha, she's going all the way, like Carrie Underwood," an "American Idol" winner and country singer who has had great commercial success.

A family friend in Selma, Lacy Miller noted, "She's a local girl. It's a small town and this is 'small town girl does good.' Now the small town is rallying around her."

Cook's mother said she first became aware of Kristy's powerful voice when she'd sing along with music at age 2 "and I thought, whoa, she's got some height!"

Will she make the big time?

"I don't know," said Carlene. "I see her having her own thing going on. Kristy is a little different from Carrie. Kristy grew up on a farm and gets her elbows more dirty. It comes across in her performances."

V - I'm surprised you're not going for the sweep in points, you've got JC in the 4th spot on your Top 12 and Super Six Ballots, this could be your Super Tuesday, but you've been lucky throwin' the dice on those weekly picks.  I really would be surprised if Syesha gets eliminated as that would be a first on AI -  with 3 males in the Top 3, as well as, the first time four females were eliminated in a row.  But, look at all of us who picked the lovely Ms. Mercado, last Tuesday . . . we shall see if Syesha can make it to 10 lives.

I'm surprised as well.  But I'm also surprised that everyone has picked Jason to go over Syesha this week except for V.  I hope that's what happens but I'm not so sure it will.

The prospect of an all-male Top 3 makes me kind of ill...if it was the Davids & Michael then it would have been OK but if Jason makes it to the Final 3...would he be the worst contestant to ever get that far?  I'd have to look it up.  Nikki McKibbin or Jason Castro?  Didn't Jasmine Trias finish 3rd?  Let's see:  Nikki, Kim Locke, Jasmine, Vonzell, Elliott, Melinda...we'll eliminate Kim, Vonzell, Elliott & Melinda from the conversation.  Who would be the worst Final 3 contestant ever if Jason gets there.  Thoughts?

So with that thought in mind...I'll go with what I want to see happen instead of what I'm fearing will happen.  Even though I think Jason's got the bigger fanbase...I'm thinking that Syesha might be able to pick up all the votes that have been left by her fellow females falling by the wayside the last three weeks.  I hope.
