Hey Co...I'm printing out all the picks right now but if there are a few missing.  I guess I'll get them tonight.  And of course I can't audit your post since I don't have that kind of access on the site.  But I'll double check and make sure everything is correct!

Off to make my spreadsheet o' picks before I head out the door.

Perfect Joe!  I just updated the post with everyone's picks.  We have one new addition - Big Shady!  Also, I left three placeholders for our international girls.  Also, just review and you and Laurie can post that you've signed off on the selections.  With the addition of Mark/Big Shady we have 25 people in the pool - should be fun.

OK, just found a problem.  Kat_BBall_06 picked Brandon for #4 & #8 and didn't specify which Chris for #5 and the other Chris isn't listed.  I'll send an e-mail or just post it here Kat_BBall_06.  OK?  Later.

OK, with 21 official and completed ballots this is the "average" vote:

Rank Idol Avg
1 Melinda 1.95
2 Blake 2.38
3 Jordin 2.48
4 Lakisha 4.10
5 Chris S 5.33
6 Gina 6.33
7 Chris R 6.52
8 Stephanie 7.00
9 Brandon 9.71
10 Phil 9.81
11 Sanjaya 11.14
12 Haley 11.24

So that's what we think as a group.  It'll be interesting to see how close we are.  It's clear we see a divide betwen the Top 8 and the Bottom 4 here.  But there's another clear line between the Top 3 and 4-8 as well.  Most people out there think Lakisha's got a better shot than we think.  Interesting.

One more chart:

  #1's #12's
Melinda 9 0
Blake 5 0
Jordin 6 0
Lakisha 1 0
Chris S 0 0
Gina 0 0
Chris R 0 0
Stephanie 0 0
Brandon 0 2
Phil 0 3
Sanjaya 0 6
Haley 0 10

So only four possible winners...four possible rejects this week.  Pending the other four ballots we're waiting on of course.

Sanjaya is so bad that its getting downright painful to watch him... honestly it's a disgrace to the credit of the judges for him even to be in the competition at all. Don't tell me he was one of the top 24 out of the thousands that auditioned!!! Ahh... if he doesn't go home I think I'll have a heartattack, millions of others will quit watching, and Simon might quit AI entirely... there comes a point when its just plain wrong.

ok, here's what i think...

Blake was a little bit of a letdown tonight. He had the moves, but not the vocal. Having said that, I still think Blake, winner or no winner, will be the one to come out on top after all this. Why? He's just so fresh. I mean, YES Melinda LaKisha and Jordin are great in their own rights, but i just don't see them as relevant recording artists who could sell records. I think all their singles would flop, kinda in the same league as Taylor. Awesome to watch, great vocals, but mix all that with today's radio and mainstream music styles, i'd think they'd fall flat. That's why Blake is gonna be the winner...when all is said and done. He is this year's Chris Daughtry. Someone that will get voted out 4th or 5th, and end up having a bigger career than all the rest.

thoughts?

Top 12
1. Melinda Doolittle
2. Lakisha Jones
3. Jordin Sparks
4. Blake Lewis
5. Stephanie Edwards
6. Chris Sligh
7. Gina Glocksen

8. Chris Richardson
9. Brandon Rogers
10. Phil Stacey
11. Sanjaya Malakar
12. Haley Scarnato

After the show tonight, I regret that I had put Sanjaya at #11 because he is going home.
Haley and Phil actually sounded much better than these 3 guys below.

The Bottom 3 for me would be:
1. Sanjaya Malakar -- no vocal power and so awkward on stage, although in tune
2. Chris Richardson -- bad vocals, so stiff, wrong song, but looks hot
3. Brandon Rogers -- no star quality but vocally ok, except he forgot words

Talking about Blake - he disappointed me tonight. He could have picked another song that suited his vocals much better. His song didn't make him shine at all. He looked hip and cool, though. But again, considering that it's a Diana Ross song category, of course the girls did much better. It's almost like a vendetta for KAT last year when she had to sing Elvis Presley. I wanted to say that for the longest time and now I got my chance at last. Thanks AI. Chris Sligh screwed the arrangement of "Endless Love" but he has definitely good vocals. He needs to step up next week with a big bang. Stephanie and Gina are ok for me. They will stay. Haley sounded good although she forgot words. The difference between Haley and Brandon lies in the "star quality". Haley has it, Brandon doesn't. Phil Stacey will stay out of my top 7, though. Jordin Sparks is amazing for her age. Pretty convincing with her song, but I find her too sweet with her smiles. A little more sincere look with those vocals might grab me better. Lakisha Jones is the  effortless powerhouse. Melinda Doolittle is the contestant to beat.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Wow, my picks were horrible. The bottom three will probably be Sanjaya, Brandon, and Stephanie with Brandon leaving. If Sanjaya isn't at least in the bottom three, I'm going to hurt someone.

Sure, that's exactly what I said in one of my prior posts in this thread. But I can see people realize that 'AI' is like an Alice in Wonderland world. Nothing operates by logic--so that means Blake won't be the winner on the show while still having a successful recording career. Despite that thought, I'm not sure his style would translate well onto a CD. He's a bit like Taylor who's better to watch perform than listen to. Melinda is the one who would be worth listening to on a CD--because she has the best quality of voice than anybody there.  The reality is, though, that a good half of the Top Twelve will likely do well in a future music career, regardless of where they finish on the show.

As a footnote: Blake has some connections to Portland (Oregon) since he's from the Seattle area. On my local Fox affiliate 10 o'clock news, they interviewed him...and he played some clubs here not long ago. One club even offered the guy an exclusive deal that he turned down because he told them he'd be on 'AI' soon and would change his life.

Well, after tonight--I STILL stand by my choice of Haley as being the first to go this week. Yes, I know she had potential with her performance tonight (and Simon's comment against Randy and Paula was strange)--but it'll ultimately add up to her getting the boot by a hair tomorrow night. The reason is because Brandon and Sanjaya have that genuine quality to them. That works better with guys somehow...and the teen girls out there watching in the millions vote them back in. So, sorry to say (and try not to go insane from seeing his next permed hair style ) Sanjaya will likely stay one more week if not more. I could be all wrong, though I'm just going with the sometimes predictable patterns of fanbases. It's the same with Brandon who I think will stick around for a while yet for the same reasons.

I just don't get why Sanjaya can't get his voice more powerful. He didn't sing that way in auditions that I remember--so he's either letting nerves get the best of him or something. Even Haley (as Simon said) could be pretty good if she got over her nerves. This show just destroys the reality of how good these performers really could be in a different setting. We learned that from Kat's tales after the finale last year.

Best of the night (obviously): Melinda, LaKisha and Jordin (despite being a tad flat on a few notes). LaKisha may do better than I think at this point and we'll see an all-girl Top Three. I agree with those who think that LaKisha may get a shocker boot somewhere along the line though. As usual, there'll be no rhyme or reason behind it.

After last night's performances, I would, if I could, change my list somewhat. My original thought of placing Lakisha closer to the top would change and placing Blake third would now be more like 5th or 6th. Sanjaya's performance was the weakest again this week. Sad to say, though, he is adorable and has great hair which seems to count for more than performance. Haley is a Katharine McPhee wannabe, but will always be a KM neverbe. She needs to be eliminated, but may stay again due to demographics. Needless to say, Melinda is the one to beat.

12. Sanjaya Malakar

Working from the bottom up... Sanjaya is brave for showing up, or just too young and dumb to know any better.  I liked Haley's song choice and I was happy for her when Simon finally gave her some love (even though I'm not a fan of Haley).  Brandon was just as Simon and Randy indicated - not ready for center stage.  Phil had the second best performance of the guys.  I was impressed with Chris R being the first to mount the audience platform, but Simon was right on with his comments about the quality of his singing.  Stephanie was not memorable, though good as always.  Gina has been shoehorned by the judges into the rocker role, and that made it hard for her to excell last night; this forced typecasting will hamper her efforts going forward.  Lakisha was solid, but she has performance "tics" that she uses that I'm finding tiresome (ie. the side-to-side head shuffle).  I'm not a fan of Chris S, but I really liked what he did with his number - best guy of the night.  Blake was dull and appeared very small on that stage.  He's got a Taylor Hicks dilemma - without the full-on performance package, he's rather ordinary.  But the theme isn't always going to lend itself to his style and last night was a good example.   Melinda was fantastic, but her vocal stylings and timbre aren't my cup of tea.  And, someone needs to say it - she needs a fashion/hair makeover.  And finally, Jordin.  Rough in spots but more often captivating in a way that no other performer matched.

I stand by my bottom three, but I fear that Twisted Sister Sanjaya will live another day and that Haley will get the axe.  Sweetheart, don't ever call yourself a "schmuck" on live TV!  (Actually, I found that and her general emotional meltdown rather endearing.)
