Katharine will be performing in the Macy's 4th Of July Fireworks Spectacular next Friday, on NBC at 9 pm eastern/pacific, 8 pm central/mountain.

I thought this might interest you.

Macys has a 2 page ad in New York Magazine for the event....small pic of Kat and her co-stars.

Sorry I don't have a scanner and last I looked, the ad was not on Macy's website!

It seems that Katharine is getting the highlight performance of the event.

A Dance of Lights for the 4th - New York Sun

The Pops will be accompanied by an assortment of popular recording artists, including country music singer Kenny Chesney; pop musicians Gavin DeGraw, Natasha Bedingfield, and Jordin Sparks, and an "American Idol" finalist, Katharine McPhee, who will perform a slow rendition of "Save the Last Dance for Me" as the famous "Golden Mile" fireworks display bursts over her head.

Here's the Michael Buble version of "Save the Last Dance for Me":

Katharine should wear red, white and blue open toed shoes, and a baby doll dress.

I don't think so.

Can't wait to see what Kat actually does wear!
The question:Is the Big Apple ready for McPheever and fireworks simultaneously??
I'm thinking The Last Dance could be quite the sexy number when done at a slow tempo by Kat!
We may have to call 911.............

I don't think so.

Or she could have marched back and forth on stage singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (doing James Cagney leaps up the side wall or not) while the whole stage is showered in illegal fireworks. Then again, having those fireworks overhead while Kat sings "Save the Last Dance for Me" might make her lose her hearing for 48 hours. So here's hoping Kat wears some ear protection, because being right under (or near) ground zero of the kind of hi-tech fireworks you see at Macy's can potentially give you the rock concert deafness that makes everybody sound like Minnie Mouse temporarily in your immediate vicinity.

Well, I'm pretty excited about Kat's appearance on the Macy's special tomorrow night, because it's one of my past wished-for appearances on this board. Now I can place a checkmark next to this one...with Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade next to go as the only one unfairly unfulfilled. Nobody can tell me there isn't some media people out of those 500+ lurkers up there who aren't reading every adjective and wish we write here.

On "Save the Last Dance for Me": Obviously this is from the David Foster song repository as others noted. Sometimes I wonder if David Foster will eventually have Kat duet with Michael Buble due to DF choosing some of Buble's songs for her to sing. She even sang "Feeling Good" (that Buble helped revive somewhat) on her brief summer tour last year, despite that probably not being via suggestion from David. Nevertheless, it's obvious that David has a lot of good songs at his disposal (and has legal rights to) that he can give to Kat to prove her talent until they complete writing new material for her album.

I guess "StLDfM" can be used in a lot of incongruous ways...as witnessed with that above odd but still witty Buble video in the dance studio. This is probably the first time it's been used in a 4th of July special, but you can count on Kat making it sound appropriate for the occasion. And, yeah, I hope she does slow it down and not make it into the Rhumba as Buble did. Some carped about that (mea culpa for DF's arranging), though it's a malleable song.

Yep, America=Katharine McPhee. She's the epitome of the American dream and representative of the values we all (or most of us) want in this country. Kudos to the producers for managing to land the right choice for the Macy's 4th of July event...when a lot of other celebrities and singers want to move to Europe if they don't get the President they want in November.

I guess the show's theme is dancing, so the song choice isn't quite as odd as it seemed at first. And by the time I can stop and figure out how to type StLDFM, I can almost type out the whole name.

Interesting that at a lot of these events, no matter how many performers are there, she seems to get mentioned somewhere in the top few. Not always, but this time for sure. My cable TVG blurb mentions... oh now I forget who else is there, Kenny Chesney, Natasha Bedingfield, and "American Idol songstresses Jordin Sparks and Katharine McPhee." I don't care anymore if they identify her with Idol as long as they spell her name right. I'm starting to have this feeling that until she wins an Oscar or a Grammy she's going to be "American Idol's Katharine McPhee." If so, just spell the name right, okay?

Agree on that spelling debacle Groucho. The ID tag will haunt Katharine until she she breaks out in
in some note worthy performance that is really "Publisized"by a lable, movie studio or network.
Marketing is name of the game.Katharine is on the verge of a Block Buster Performance that will
sky rocket her to the top.The big question is not will it happen, but when when will it happen.Sexual
themes are used to promote many of the female singers, and this is one area that Katharine could excell in.
She works under a handicap at this time not really knowing her niche in the music business.Katharine has so
much talent and energy that has been held back from the public. Her dancing is incredible and has hardly
been exposed. Her vocals are always on hold as if she is telling everyone, yea i can belt it out if i have to,
but only when i believe i have the right song. One of these night's Katharine is going to -EXPLODE-
and I hope tonight is the start of the __Explosion's---

Unbelievable Performance-
None of the other performer's had the distractions that Katharine faced, and she still beat them all of
them.Gorgeous dress and center stage mean's only one thing in the entertainment business.
NBC had a purpose for Katharine and we will soon find out what it was.Again she held back, but sooner or
later they will unleash her vocal's.
Every one in KMF land have to be proud of our Katharine.

I posted a link to a video in the media forum for anyone who missed it. There will probably be downloads in a bit but I'm signing off because my computer is having fits. I'll check back tomorrow to see what I can find.

My sound was lousy and between that damn umbrella and the directional mike you could hardly see her face, but oh well, it was still good to see and hear her again. Even over fireworks it was the best perf. of the evening.

Kat looked wonderful in red and sounded great!
I'm just sorry that Kat had to compete with the very loud band and fireworks explosions.....those sounds kinda put a damper on hearing Kat, for me.Maybe,I shouldn't have turned my speakers on.
To me,most of the songs in the medley had very little to do with the supposed "dance" theme.

Was Idol night on PBS as well.
Taylor Hicks did 3 numbers with some spastic moves. To borrow a Randyism......Taylor was really quite pitchy!
